DIMPLEPLASTY

Sourcing from an innate anomaly in the zygomaticus major muscle structure, dimples are observed mostly on chicks and chin /jaw areas, providing a characteristic look to the face. Just like this look may disappear with the gain or loss of weight, it may also remain with us lifelong. As dimples provide a pretty and appealing look, our patients without dimples have begun to demand dimple aesthetics increasingly. This look that happens by the muscles’ backward motion during a smile can actually be provided by a fifteen-minute operation without requiring long preparation processes.

Operation is made with local anaesthesia. Smile muscle, by a 4-5 mm cut, is stitched and anchored to the oral mucosa. In some cases, it can be done through the removal of a minor muscle or fat tissue as well. The newly formed dimples that are visible in the first phase become even more distinct during smile post-recovery. Swelling and purpleness may occur around the surgery area. Recovery period can be shortened by using cold-compress and medicine and oral rinse (for oral hygiene) that your doctor recommends.

This anatomic shaping that happens through smiling is mostly permanent. In case there is dehiscence the process may require a do over.

Caution: Share with you doctor all your currently prescribed medicine and, if having, your habits such as smoking or alcohol usage, because it should not be forgotten that some medicine may increase the risk of bleeding, prolonging bad habits may cause infection and effect the curing process at a significant level.
