RHINOPLASTY (NOSE AESTHETICS)
Rhinoplasty is one of the most commonly performed surgeries worldwide, with the aim of providing a more harmonious appearance around the nasal area.
Why are rhinoplasty surgeries performed?
To widen, narrow, or lift the tip of the nose
To remove the hump on the nose bridge
To correct the asymmetrical appearance of the nose
To correct congenital structural abnormalities of the nose
To fix shape abnormalities caused by trauma
To correct cartilage and bone curvatures that cause breathing problems
Who can have a rhinoplasty?
Anyone over the age of 18 who has aesthetic concerns and does not have any serious health problems can undergo a rhinoplasty surgery.
Pregnant and breastfeeding women should postpone aesthetic surgeries.
How is a rhinoplasty performed?
A rhinoplasty can be performed under general anaesthesia or local anaesthesia, but general anaesthesia is usually preferred to prevent discomfort to the patient and reduce the likelihood of traumatic problems. The patient will undergo some tests and a physical examination before the surgery, and the surgical plan will be made based on the results. The techniques and methods used by the surgeon during the surgery will be determined based on the patient's aesthetic expectations. The duration of the surgery may vary depending on the patient's nasal tissue and structure. The approximate duration of the surgery is between 2-3 hours. The use of tampons and splints is up to the surgeon's preference.
What method is used for a rhinoplasty?
Depending on the patient's expectations, the structure of the nose, the nature of the problem, and the surgeon's preference, the surgery can be performed using either an open or closed technique.
How is the recovery period, post-surgery?
After a nose surgery, if the patient's health is good, it is possible for them to be discharged from the hospital on the evening of the surgery day and it is recommended for them to take a ten-day rest at home. Cold applications made during the surgery may cause minimal bruising and swelling in the nose and around the eyes. This condition will gradually fade as time passes. The recovery process for the nose to reach its desired shape can take between six to twelve months.
What should be considered after a nose surgery?
Protecting the nose from possible impacts is very important during the recovery process. It is recommended not to use glasses for two months to maintain the new shape of the nose. The prescribed medication should be used carefully. To prevent the risk of infection, the patient should avoid hot applications such as steam baths, saunas, and heavy exercise for a month. To eliminate the risk of skin discoloration, the patient should not be exposed to sunlight for a while. Patients with stitches should avoid contact with water in the affected area until the stitches are removed.
